ToxiGuardTM – Carbon Monoxide Monitoring System

ToxiGuardTM is an integrated carbon monoxide monitoring system that contains its own unique self-calibration feature. No longer left to chance, the ToxiGuard automatically self calibrates each time the gas compressor is started up… whether monthly, weekly or daily.

CO regulations -- SCBA and SCUBA tank filling operations are required to monitor for carbon monoxide, assuring that the contents of the tanks contains less than 10 ppm of this toxic gas. The standard established by the Compressed Gas Association is delineated in Pamphlet G-7.1-1998, calling for a 10 ppm CO limit, labeled Grade D (fire fighters) and E (under water to 130 ft depth). NFPA 1500 establishes testing to be done four times per year.

In Practice -- The bugaboos of CO monitoring are: the quarterly testing, the limited sensor life and the extremely low permissible CO levels. Performing these frequent tests is often overlooked by busy fire department personnel, and calibration is usually relegated to an outside contractor – amounting in a $600-1000 testing fee. And, even quarterly visits could permit an inaccurate CO sensor to be malfunctioning for as long as three months without being discovered. Sadly, in actual practice, CO sensors in many SCUBA and SCBA tank refill stations receive testing less than quarterly, some less and annually. Safety and liability are serious issues when this occurs.

The solution – Purchase a ToxiGuard system for your compressor station and eliminate all worries about CO sensor calibration. Keyed to your compressor startup switch, the ToxiGuard system proceeds to run a complete calibration cycle on its self contained CO sensor, taking about six minutes total time. The built in computer can also schedule interim calibrations, assuring your sensor is ready to go when you are. An alarm sounds if the sensor fails to calibrate properly, or if there is insufficient calibration gas to conduct a proper calibration cycle. Once a year, change out the zero & span calibration gas tanks, taking about three minutes and costing less than $150.

The ToxiGuard system is priced just a few hundred dollars more than an ordinary CO sensor without the automatic calibration feature. For programming the calibration dates, alarm levels and such, the setup information is downloaded from your laptop computer, using the MagiKal-II-SW software, a one-time charge of $250. Prices are FOB factory, UPS shipping prepaid and added. Our standard Terms and Conditions of Sale, 1-year Warranty and transferable Software License apply to all purchases, copy included with confirming mail.

ToxiGuard Specifications:

Ø Carbon monoxide monitoring range is 0-25ppm by volume in normal air
Ø Front panel displays the CO level in ppm
Ø Input sample gas is at 10-50psi; Flow is regulated to 150-200 CC/minute
Ø Power input is 110-120VAC, drawing about 750 watts max under full operation
Ø Two settable SPDT relays with contacts rated at 30VDC, 1-Amp
Ø Threshold contacts can be used for activating an external alarm and other controls
Ø Hysteresis, threshold on/off separation, is field adjustable
Ø Alarms and controls are de-activated during the automatic calibration procedure
Ø Can be initiated anytime by manually pressing the “Cal-Now” switch.
Ø Pressure gages on the two cal-gas tanks display the pressure in psi
Ø Gas pressure is monitored continuously during calibration to assure adequate supply
Ø A calibration abort alarm is initiated if either tank falls below an adequate level
Ø Automatic calibration could be performed on startup of the compressor, being completed in about six minutes. Or, the clock and calendar on the MagiKal-II PCB can be programmed to execute calibration on a prescribed schedule.
Ø For external monitoring through a separate computer, a 4-20ma analog signal is available for export.
Ø Alarms are stifled during automatic calibration by continuing to export the normal CO signal during the calibration cycle.
Ø The ToxiGuard Panel is steel, complete with self contained cal-gas tanks, is NEMA-12, 18”Wx24”Hx6”D, intended for wall mounting.

As supplied, there is sufficient gas in the on-board tanks to support about 20 normal, full-cycle calibrations. Replacement tanks can be purchased from Rel-Tek.

The high-level CO trip relay will be set to close at 10 ppm CO (High-alarm). Another threshold-settable relay is available as an early warning (LOW-alarm). A strobe and horn on the panel provide ample alarm notification to operating personnel. On an alarm condition, the front panel display alternately flashes the CO value and word "LOW" or "HIGH", as applicable. These threshold settings and alarm outputs can be field adjusted differently if you wish.

Please consider adding the ToxiGuard CO monitor with automatic calibration to your SDCBA/SCUBA refilling operations. Call us if your have questions or need to place an order.

ToxiGuardTM and MagiKalTM are Rel-Tek trademarks. The automatic calibration utility is patent pending.
